If it wasn't for many rescue groups, many elephants would be dead. In the Ivory Trade Ban 1989, IFAW had a conflict between the poachers. They also had to make a compromise with the government to stop the poachers. The compromise is failing, though. Many poachers are ignoring it because the price of ivory has gone up. Even though IFAW seized over 2,500 shipments of Ivory, and saved more than 1,000 elephants, they may not be able to do it again.
